About Confident Budget
Confident Budget is a free, AI-powered personal finance app that lets you track expenses and manage budgets by talking to an AI in plain language. It runs on the web, as an installable PWA, as native iOS and Android apps, and as a Telegram bot, and it is built by an indie developer who wanted budgeting to feel like a quick conversation instead of filling in forms.
What Confident Budget does
Instead of opening a form, picking a category, and typing an amount, you log spending the way you would tell a friend: type or say something like "spent $15.50 on lunch," and the AI turns it into a properly recorded transaction. Voice input is supported, so you can add expenses hands-free.
Under the hood it uses double-entry bookkeeping, so the numbers stay consistent as your finances grow. On top of that foundation you get budgets, accounts, categories, and transactions, along with net-worth tracking and reports that show where your money goes. If you are coming from another tool, CSV import lets you bring your existing history with you.
The friction of manual entry is a real problem: according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average American household logs thousands of separate transactions a year across dozens of spending categories. Confident Budget's goal is to make capturing each one take a sentence, not a form.
How it works
The core loop is natural-language logging: describe a purchase in plain words and the AI records it for you. From there you can review budgets, browse accounts and transactions, and check your net worth and reports at any time.
Confident Budget is offline-first. Your data is stored locally on your device, so the app keeps working with no connection. Signing in and syncing is optional and only matters when you want your data backed up and kept in step across your phone, tablet, and the web. The one part that needs an account is the AI assistant, which has a weekly usage limit that covers everyday use. Higher-limit paid subscriptions are planned but not yet available.

Who makes it
Confident Budget is built and maintained by an independent developer. It is privacy-focused by design: your data is local-first and, when you choose to sync, it travels over the Cloudflare edge. You can delete all of your data or your entire account at any time. When you use the AI assistant, your queries are sent to third-party LLM providers through enterprise APIs and are not used to train their models.
